Our basketball league is open to youth grades 4th through 8th. We have skills training, coincides with practice and games, with an emphasis on fun, from June 8 to July 13. With the use of John Marshall High School’s two gymnasium’s, Impact Youth’s Basketball League provides a safe place for our area’s youth to play basketball in the summer while building a skill during the off-season. As an added benefit, this program will help enrich Marshall’s own basketball program with players who are physically and mentally ready for the regular season.
In light of COVID-19, the following dates are both hopeful and subject to change with State of Ohio recommendations.
Born and raised in the Bellaire-Puritas community since April of 1972, Shawn attended local Cleveland schools in the Bellaire-Puritas community while playing youth and high school sports. Shawn played youth football in the early to mid 1980’s for a westside Cleveland Muny football team called the Cudell Deacons (named after Cleveland Brown’s player Doug Deacon). Shawn also played high school football at John Marshall High School. As a starting quarterback in 1989, his junior year, Shawn lead the team to a City Championship – their first in several years. Shawn also attended Cuyahoga Community College and the University of Akron as a business major. Shawn has coached student- athletes from ages 6-18. Shawn’s football coaching experience extends from the youth level, coaching in Cleveland Muny for the Gunning Park Gators, to the high school level at Holy Name High School. However, Shawn feels as though his greatest accomplishments is his commitment and contribution to the inner-city youth where he has served as a volunteer youth mentor, coach and trainer since June of 2003 in the Bellaire-Puritas community.
Coach Shawn Austin Sr. has spent 35 years either playing, working, raising a family, mentoring or coaching to better improve the overall quality of our youth in the Bellaire-Puritas community where he grew up.
